Ingredients

  • 3/4 Cup Whole Wheat flour
  • 1/4 Cup Almond Flour
  • 1 Cup White Flour Plus more as needed
  • 2.5 tsp baking powder
  • 2 TBSP packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground flax seeds
  • 1/4 pound chilled butter (1 stick)
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/3 Cup maple syrup
  • 1 egg
  • 2 TBSP milk
  • Nonstick spray for greasing baking sheet

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 400 °
  2. In a large bowl, combine whole-wheat flour, 1 cup white flour, almond flour, brown sugar, baking powder, flax seeds, and salt.
  3. Slice butter
  4. Slowly combine butter into flour mixture until mixture until it resembles fine crumbs.
  5. Stir in nuts, maple syrup, egg, and milk.
  6. Form dough into a ball using your hands if necessary.
  7. Turn dough into a lightly floured surface.
  8. Roll dough out into an 8-inch disk
  9. Transfer to a lightly greased baking sheet.
  10. Cut into wedges, but do not separate
  11. Bake until golden brown, about 20 minutes
  12. Immediately remove from baking sheet, and carefully separate.
  13. Serve Warm

Tips

  • Scones are best served warm. To reheat scones place them in a brown paper bag. Wet the outside of the bag and place in the oven on 300 for a few minutes, until the paper bag dries out.
