Prep
- Roast and walnuts. Set aside to cool.
Step 1
- Mix ground flax seeds and water in a small bowl and set aside.
Step 2
- Place all step 2 ingredients into a food processor and pulse about 12 short pulses.
- Transfer to a large bowl and set aside.
Step 3
- Heat a skillet over medium high heat and add a little oil.
- Add onions and peppers and cook, stirring frequently, until softened about 5 minutes.
- Add garlic and cook, stirring constantly for about 2 minutes.
- Transfer to a large bowl
Step 4
- Add beans to the food processor and pulse until roughly chopped.
- Transfer to a large bowl.
Step 5
- Add flax mix to the large bowl and mix all ingredients together
- If the mixture is too dry, add a bit of water.
- Patty mixture can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days at this stage.
Prepare patties
- Place some black bean mixture in a food mold and push down firm.

Cook burger
- Heat a cast iron pan on high heat.
- Add a little oil
- Once the pan is hot place the patty in the pan.
- Once the patty is seared on one side flip and sear the other side.
