Powdered Sugar Glaze

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted confectioner’s sugar
  • Choose 1 liquid:
    • 2-6 TBSP milk
    • 2-6 TBSP half and half
    • 2-6 TBSP water
    • 2-6 TBSP Almond or Soy Milk
    • 2-6 TBSP fresh lemon, lime, or orange juice
    • 2-6 TBSP Coffee. Use cooled, strongly-brewed coffee or espresso for all or some of the liquid.
    • 2-6 TBSP Apple Juice or Cider.
    • 1-3 TBSP Pure Maple Syrup. 1-3 TBSP Other liquid from this list otherwise it will be too sweet.
  • Choose 1 Flavoring if desired:
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract
    • 0.5 – 1 tsp finely-grated citrus zest
    • 0.25 tsp pure citrus extracts. Start with 0.25 tsp and build the flavor to taste.
    • Spices. Whisk in 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, or ginger, to taste.
    • 1 tsp of other Extracts. Use pure almond, coconut, or peppermint extract in lieu of vanilla.
    • Spike It. Swap 1/2 to 2 tablespoons of your favorite liquor for some of the liquid.

Directions

  • In a bowl, whisk together sifted powdered sugar, flavoring if desired, and enough liquid to thin the glaze to your desired consistency for dipping, drizzling, or pouring over your favorite baked goods and pastries. Glaze will be smooth.
